In Morrison v. Morrison, the Supreme Court held that a court retains jurisdiction to enforce a divorce decree even when a particular enforcement order exceeds its authority. The parties’ decree allowed damages caused by breach to be collected from sale proceeds, but the trial court awarded all the home-sale proceeds without determining the damages. The court reversed the appellate judgment and remanded to the trial court. The opinion distinguishes a permissible remedy for proven damages from an impermissible redivision of property.
